What is a Proxy?

What is a proxy? A proxy server acts an intermediate between a web browser and a web server. It provides fast and anonymous access to various websites. At work, proxies may be used as a “mediator” between a workstation in a network and the internet. Proxies allow users to visit sites that may be blocked at their workplace. In this way, it acts as a “go around.”

Proxies also enable users to surf the web anonymously. This is perfect for the individual that wants to visit websites without a trace. Some websites will attempt to place or read cookies on your website. They do this to find out personal and sensitive information about you. Some companies will attempt to find out what other sites you visit so that they can market you products that they think that you might interested in.

Again, what is a proxy? A proxy server allows you to surf the web, without a trace. You don’t have to worry about anyone tracing your web activity. It also helps to protect your computer. Very few people have the right to view information that you deem private. This includes where you visit on the internet. Marketing purposes are not a good enough reason for companies to attempt to spy on you and your internet viewing habits. A proxy server acts a go between and ensures that this does not occur.
